  • New drummer feature; supports iCloud
  • Crashes some older Macs; In app purchase may cost in spite of being a prior user; Interface not as user-friendly as it should be
  • Despite teething problems, Apple's update to GarageBand for Mac pushes firmly ahead with the streamlining agenda for multi-level applications. If the redesign of iMovie in 2007 and more recently FCP X are anything to go by, elements of the high-end functi...

  • Were Apple GarageBand ’11 a standalone product, this largely evolutionary version might have merited a .5 release rather than a bump to a new version number. But where iLife goes, so goes GarageBand. All the changes that have been made - expanded less...

  • For many musicians, the improvements present in GarageBand ’11 most probably warrant the £45 price tag alone, even if they aren’t interested in the rest of the iLife ’11 suite that includes the updated iPhoto ’11 and iMovie ’11. Apple has once again ma...

  • More free keyboard and guitar lessons, expanded set of guitar amp and effects, Flex Time and Groove Matching address poor timing
  • Very limited external control of amps and effects, chord Trainer doesn't always hear correct chord
  • GarageBand 11 is a great software tool for getting started with learning to play an instrument, and composing music. And it is a pretty good podcast editor, too. More advanced players and music makers will soon come up against limitations, but that's fair...

  • Great value for money. Beautiful interface. Simple multitrack mixing. Excellent instrument tutorials, including celebrity lessons. Stretch waveforms to match rhythm.
  • No export to market leading studio software. Several features involve large downloads. Mac OS only.
  • If you want to get your toes wet in music studio production, or just to start learning to play an instrument, it would be hard to find a better place to start than with GarageBand. ...

  • Flex Time and Groove Matching are perfect for aspiring musicians. Sweet new guitar amps and effects.
  • MIDI remote control only works with Apogee Gio control hardware. Real-time feedback hits a few sour notes.
  • Overall, there’s a lot to like about GarageBand ’11—it easily represents the best value in the musical-software world, and the moment you hit its creative ceiling, it’s easy to take your projects directly into Logic Express, the next step up in power...
