  • Minuses, USB cable too short, Currently only exists in 500 GB version. We're awaiting other models impatiently.

  • It’s not as fast as Western Digital’s offering, but that’s the cost of losing the power brick and gaining true portability. Unfortunately that’s not the only cost. At £134.99 for 500GB, it’s a bit pricey, considering other 2.5” 500GB disks can be had ...

  • Extrait:  Most new computers don't come with much storage space -- unless you're splurging on a high-end model, they usually have 256 or 512 gigabytes. Game consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One come with 1-terabyte drives (which is roughly 1,000GB), but if you don't regularly take games off the drive as you acquire more, the drives max out easily. A good storage solution is to find the best external hard drive for your needs. A traditional hard drive that uses "old" hard drive technology (mechanical platters and a moving read-write head to access data) is adequate for the majority of users, thanks to speedier USB-C and USB 3.0 (as well as 3.1/3.2) interfaces. Prices have dropped significantly in the last few years, with even mega-capacity models tipping the scales at 5TB but costing just over $100. A solid state drive doesn't have moving parts and has up to four times faster read speeds, but it costs a lot more per gigabyte.

  • Bulky
  • Not only is this portable hard drive super-fast, it can take its share of abuse, too.

  • light, rugged, changeable colors
  • Have to install drivers to use, SuperSpeed USB 3.0, LaCie is part of the growing consortium of companies introducing SuperSpeed USB 3.0 products. While I was hoping to test the 500GB AllTerrain Hard Disk USB 3.0 capabilities with LaCie's USB 3.0 ExpressCard34, my laptop with an ExpressCard port broke, and my spare laptop doesn't have such a port. So I was forced to test this using USB 2.0,
