While the new lens has improved imaging performance over its predecessor, including higher and more consistent sharpness over the first three aperture settings, there has been quite a hike in the price (from $499 to $749). However, the addition of stabili...

sensational image quality in the frame centre up from the maximum relative aperture, very good image quality on the edge of the frame both on the APSC/DX and on full frame, negligible chromatic aberration, well corrected spherical aberration, zero distort
modest accessory kit, vignetting on full frame could have been lower.

Sharpness, contrast and colour are all outstanding, The silent focusing and general look and feel of the lens are luxurious, better than previous Tamrons, Manual focus is beautifully smooth and well-damped

Sharpness, contrast and colour are all outstanding. The silent focusing and general look and feel of the lens are luxurious, better we would say than previous Tamrons. Manual focus is beautifully smooth and well damped.
The autofocus, although smooth, quiet and accurate, can be a little lethargic, gliding into focus rather than snapping. There is also some hunting for focus in low contrast light. (Tested on a Canon 5DMkII)
