  • Extrait:  At £432 the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens should come with a lens hood, but it doesn’t. However, it does come with a soft case to protect against scuffs and scrapes and features an Ultra-low dispersion (UD) element and Super Spectra coatings to...

  • Extrait:  Test NotesEvery now and then, you really do get more than you pay for, and the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM is proof positive of this. When we ran this lens through its paces in our lab, we were flat-out astonished by the optical quality it delivered....

  • The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS is a decent performer and a great value offer. It is capable of delivering superb results at 70mm (for a slow speed lens) and it's still pretty good at 200mm and even 300mm. The vignetting is comparatively moderate...

  • Extrait:  Note: A hands on review of this lens can be found HERE Canon have updated the 75-300/4-5.6IS USM, which was the first image stabilized lens available to consumers, way back in September 1995. I guess after 10 years it was ready for an update! The new le...

  • Extrait:  Review of Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens The following lens tests were run after acquiring a new Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens to potentially use as a light-weight telephoto zoom lens for travel with Canon APS-C cameras. I had low expect...

  • Extrait:  In a Nutshell I love this lens. When I first picked it up I thought it was a toy - but when I saw the great heavyweight image quality, the toy-like lightness became a huge benefit. It feels flimsy and light, and the zoom on the worn one I borrowed flo...

  • Extrait:  With the introduction of the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens, Canon has replaced one of its most popular lenses and its first image stabilized lens - the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS. The 75-300mm IS lens was popular because of its useful focal...

  • Extrait:  The Canon EF 70-300/4-5.6 IS USM is the replacement for the EF75-300/4-5.6 IS USM, but the difference is much more than just 5mm at the short end of the range. According to Canon, the new lens uses a low dispersion optical element for better image ...

  • This is a sweet and smooth lens in use. Auto focus is fast enough and the feel of zoom and focus controls is good. It is light enough to carry around without getting a pain in the neck, yet not so light that there are worries about durability.
  • There is slight barrel distortion at the wide end – nothing to worry about in field use – and slightly more pincushion at the 300mm end. It is easy enough to correct in Photoshop.
  • Canon produces a bewildering array of lenses in this zoom range. By our count there are four 70–200mm lenses and three 70–300. The best lenses are those that have a constant maximum aperture across the zoom range and in which the barrel length does n...
