Less flashy but more functional redesigned camera body handles like a comfortable DSLR rather than an awkward rangefinder, Comfy, textured faux-leather handgrip, Contrast detection based autofocus system functions much faster than previous models witho...
Archaic menu system is confusing and unnecessarily complicated, Live Guide II system should be easier to access and adjust, customize, Shooting tips in Live Guide II suffer from bad translation, Buttons are too small; no exterior control for ISO, ISO s...
Though I've admired Olympus' Pen-series compact system cameras in the past for their stylish designs and bounty of features, I didn't find them to be particularly enjoyable to shoot with. Until now. With the 12.3MP Olympus Pen E-PL2, the company has go...

The E-PL2 delivers excellent photo quality, with an extremely customizable interface
Performance has improved, but the E-PL2 still couldn't be classified as fast overall
A great interchangeable-lens model if you're looking for better photo quality and/or a more advanced feature set than your current point-and-shoot offers, the Olympus PEN E-PL2 still doesn't satisfy for photographing active kids and pets.
Ergonomically comfortable body with textured hand grip, recessed on/off button, mode dial, and control wheel, Improved 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko MSC zoom kit lens, In-body image stabilization, HD movie (720p) controls including manual exposure and art filters. Allows zooming during capture, Accessory Port 2 for expanded functionality, Built-in wireless flash control,
No built-in external mic jack—must buy accessory port adapter, Complex menu system, Limited to AVI movie format (Motion JPEG OpenDML)
Very good photo quality (though see issues below), Good value for the money, Compact, well designed body; comes in four colors, Sensorshift image stabilization, 3inch LCD display with 460,000 pixels, good outdoor visibility, and wide viewing angle, Full manual controls, with lots of white balance options, four kinds of bracketing, and tons of custom functions, RAW format supported, good editor in
Frequent highlight clipping; colors a bit dull at default settings, Noise reduction can smudge fine details, even at base ISO (turn down the noise filter to reduce that), Redeye a problem, though it can be removed in playback mode, Poor low light focusing (this camera needs an AFassist lamp), Flash is on the weak side (though it's better than not having one), No auto photo rotation, Movie mode is
The Olympus E-PL2 is a compact, entry-level interchangeable lens camera. It's a relatively minor upgrade to the E-PL1 that it replaces, with the larger and sharper LCD and new control wheel being the biggest changes. While not without its flaws, the E...
The Olympus E-PL2 offers the same good image quality as the E-P1, E-P2 and E-PL1. A cosmetic update keeps it fresh, but there's no need for E-PL1 users to replace their current cameras.
Visually appealing image quality, Compact, light & good looking exterior, Snappy operation, fast & quiet AF,
Poor command dial action, Images noisy, especially after ISO 800, Could use a few more dedicated buttons like ISO, WB
Thanks to a number of small improvements, the Olympus E-PL2 is now a much better, and more enjoyable camera to use, than its predecessor. First and foremost, on the aesthetic front, the E-PL2 looks much better the E-PL1. The new design is more elegant ...
Very good image quality, Built-in Image Stabilisation, Compact, light kit zoom with quick AF, Hot Shoe and accessory port, Highly customisable.
Screen hard to see in bright conditions, Complex menu system, Mono audio mic, Disappointing sequential shooting, Movie mode still stuck at 720p Motion JPEG.
Whereas the E-P1 and E-P2 PENS were aimed at those looking for a compact DSLR alternative without the compromises of fixed lens small-sensor compacts, the E-PL1 was designed to appeal more to compact owners with photographic aspirations who didn't, wh...
The Olympus E-PL2 is a rather modest upgrade of the original E-PL1, with a sleeker design, better kit lens and bigger screen chief amongst the rather short list of improvements. Olympus got most things right first time round with the E-PL1 though, so ...
Olympus continues to improve their Digital PEN line of EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) cameras, with the E-PL2 being the latest addition. Like when they announced the E-P2, the E-PL2 does not replace its predecessor, the E-PL1; rather...
